My Name is James Trenholm. I live in Riverview, New Brunswick. I am 41 years old and love fishing. I spend most of my time fishing trout, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, and salmon.
I am married with twin girls. I am a vice-principal at a local elementary school. In the winter time I spend most of my spare time in the hockey rinks getting yelled at as I am a level 5 referee.

Great reads on your site James. I’ve been following it more and more lately. The fly site from Texas that you mentioned sent me the flies I ordered. I thought they were pretty good and compared well with some of the ones I had in my fly box. I got traditional Miramichi Flies: Rusty Rat, Blue Charm, Green Highlander, Thunder & Lightning, and a few Wooly Buggers….
I see we’ve got a bit in common… I’ve been a VP at Albert Street School and Bliss Carman Middle School in Fredericton for the past four years… Hope you get out fishing this fall! Tight lines.
Scott
Thanks for the comment Scott. I enjoy writing the blog and am glad some people are reading it. We are almost back to work. I was in for a bit today. Even though it will be weekends I hope to get out a handful more times. I got one of my orders and think the flies look good as well. Hope to try them soon. Good luck with the upcoming school year. Keep in touch.
Hey cool! Another NB fishing blogger…there isn’t too many of us! Nice Canaan River smallies, btw!!
Tight lines!
Mat
Hey Mat,
Thanks for stopping by. I hope to post more as I am starting to get out fishing more.
Jamie. I think it is time to update your profile. 40??
Ha…..thanks for keeping count….:)
Stumbled upon your blog while trolling the NB Fishing forums (yes, pun intended). Appreciate your writing style (and willingness to share your fishing holes!) Am a fellow educator based out of Fredericton and looking forward to reading your future posts! Plan on buying a red senko at my earliest opportunity now… Based on your French Lake post I gave it a try this afternoon. Same conditions, very windy and water very high but all we caught was one large chub with one pickerel chasing my Rapala out of the water but not actually taking it.
Hello Carm. Thanks for posting. I am not sure where on French Lake you tried. Even with the high water you should have gotten into some pickerel, although the high water conditions have certainly affected the fishing this year.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to your comments.
Hello James,
Give me a shout via email sometime as I would finally like to go fishing on the Canaan some night soon.
Thanks,
Bob Snider
Great Blog James. I am 41 years also and live in Rothesay, NB. If you’d be willing to share some of your knowledge of spots, I’d love to learn. I love trout fishing and take my 8 year-old son to a few local spots with stocked trout but would love to know about some natural places to go also. Where is Crooked Creek by the way?

Hello Trevor. Thanks for the comments. I have been very bad at keeping it updated this summer. Did not fish much once it turned hot. Crooked Creek is in Riverside Albert in the Caladonia Gorge. It is a beautiful place to spend the day fishing, even if the fishing is slow.
Hey there,
Just wanted to drop a note to say how much I enjoy reading the blog. Many of the sites that focus on fly fishing in NB are dedicated primarily to salmon fishing so it’s nice to read some posts and stories about trout fishing as well.
It looks like your blog attracts a lot of fly fishing teachers! I teach down near Saint John. My wife’s family is in Dieppe so I may try to check out some of the local rivers up that way next summer. Looking forward to reading future posts. Keep up the great work!
Hi James,
I found your site while surfing, and really enjoyed reading it!
I live in the Middle East now (Dubai ) for nine years, but have strong roots in the Maritimes. We lived in NS for 15 years and my wife’s family are from Moncton. They also have an old family “farmhouse” out in Albert county, so I’ve spent a lot of time in the area, but I’ve never fished Crooked Creek. I try to get back to NB at least once a year. I can’t wait to go back now and give Crooked Creek a try! I would love to hook a rainbow or a speckled on a dry fly there. That’s a beautiful part of the world. Im a little homesick now, especially after reading your blogs. Hopefully I’ll get home this summer!
Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the great comment Paul. I just love spending time at Crooked Creek. It is a fantastic place to spend the day. I am very glad you like reading my posts. It is why I write them
Hey Jamie!
I was looking on line for some hot spots and stumbled across this!
Loved reading every bit of it! I learned to fly fishing last summer up in the Miramichi at Odonnells cottages. It’s near doaktown and it was during the may long weekend and the trout were going crazy for the brown fly. Just over a couple of weeks to go and I can’t wait! Came home so late last year a couple of times and the crew thought I got lost! LOL. The beauty of it is You Can!! Happy fishing!
